Let's say this guy doesn't exist. But then lets say someone came along that really influenced the black mass. A true black leader. A tech entrepreneur that could stand toe to toe with tech tycoons. That could influence the masses to unite and do great things such as group economics, obtain higher education, decrease crime etc...
What city is best for a person like this to live?
My initial thoughts:
Atlanta: Atlanta could be a powerhouse. It's black hollywood. A huge black upper class population. Great universities. Educated people. Great place for technology from what I hear. Blacks have local political power in this city. Decent media market.
DC: If this person needed national political power, it would be at his doorstep. Also tons of educated upper class blacks. Decent Media Market.
NY(Harlem): Just this person being in Harlem would be very significant to the neighborhood given the gentrification taking place. Best media market in the country. Possibly the best business connections on an international scale. Largest black population lives in nyc.

You're assuming they need to be in a black majority area. That's a really poor way to think about it.
Although most people here do think everything is based on race, it's just not true. A black tech dude would probably end up in the Bay Area like the Jewish ones, the Indian ones, the white ones, the Chinese ones. You don't get successful in these kinds of fields by being obsessed with racial activism, believe it or not.
Just a theoritical question guys. Calm down.. There's no real black leaders like there used to be. And technology is very important in this era. I was just wondering what city would be best for a modern day's version of MLK...
Im sure the bay area is good for tech. But to also take advantage of the Metro's influence, it could be wise to be in nyc, atl or dc. Those cities have good tech hubs too. Sorry if the question offends anyone. Just thought it wld be a good question. I always hear ppl tlk abt blk mecca where the masses go to. But it had me thinking about where the most influential, modern day blk leader type of person would live

I agree that we really don't have black leaders like that. But I don't see why it should be only Harlem, Atlanta, and/or D.C. Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia are more than capable of joining these three. Not to mention growing large affluent cities with large black populations such as Charlotte and Raleigh. I guess if you need to pick a city it would be DC due to the city's position on leadership obviously. But it wouldn't affect me much if I lived in say Dallas or Chicago. Because the leaders in these cities should be more influential than a so called leader in DC. There should be multiple leaders in every city.
I think it's easy when you go to an already successful city with established African Americans. I think you can have a greater impact on a poorer city such as Detroit, Philadelphia or Baltimore. I think a leader is needed to turn those cities around. Or what about going to a city that doesn't have a large black population but has tons of potential. (Minneapolis-St paul, Denver, Seattle). Cities that could bring in more african americans leading to higher numbers in diversity .

people mite laugh but boston (cambridge) has the highest education attainment. not sure how it skews by race but i assume asain (east-asian, south-asian(indian), norasian(russian), asian-minor(middle-eastern)) are higher represented.
edit: speaking of mlk, he went to college in boston. obama, too.
i think i agree with bjimmy. the best place would be the best place to learn and be surrounded by inquisitive minds. that mite not necessarily be the place with the largest concentration of black people.
i think harvard-kennedy is the #1 political science/government/diplomacy/law school in the country.
