Central America is a subregion of the North American continent. North America goes from as far north as Canada and Greenland all the way south to the tip of Panama. All in all, North America is home to 23 countries and an additional 22-25 dependent territories.

That's because Latin America is a cultural realm, not a continent. Latin America refers to the areas in the Western Hemisphere that were colonized by conquistadors and colonizing monarchies from Europe's Iberian Peninsula (i.e. Spain and Portugal).
