Most of them are headed across the Bay to where my cousin lives, not down the Peninsula to Silicon Valley.

I don't know in what universe 2.8 percent of the population is considered "a decent number of black people," but it's sure not this one. I think blacks make up a larger share of the population of the state of Oregon, which tried to ban them from settling there in its state constitution back when it entered the Union.

That figure comes from stats on this very site.

Blacks in SJ are about as scarce as single beautiful women. They don’t call it Man Jose for nothing.

No, it doesn't.

It just means that the Michelin people feel enough of the people who buy their guides will buy one covering the Bay Area to make producing one worthwhile. Remember, that company is based in France, and the primary market for their guides remains Europe, with the luxury-travel set a significant secondary market.

And were it not for the existence of San Francisco just up the road, there would be no Michelin-rated restaurants in San Jose either. It's that city that's the travel magnet. Nobody had to write a song asking "Do you know the way to San Francisco?" - everyone knows where it is.

Obviously, the topper has yet to visit a city that actually does have "lots of blacks" in it if he thinks San Jose has lots of them.

I'm beginning to wonder if he isn't really some pasty-faced kid who works in a high-tech code shop.

So 60's ish! The song was made back then, not now.

San Jose has better: Italian, Mexican, Vietnamese, African, Middle Eastern, Thai, and Japanese foods than Philly. That's for sure! Italian-Original Joe's and Eno La teca Storia are best old school Italian with best veal parm. ever. El Burro has the best mexican food. Falafel Drive In has the best falafel, period. No need to go more.
