Beaverton, OR has a sizable Asian community. I have relatives there and like the area. I’m half-Asian BTW.

I don't have a clue about the Asian presence in the other cities that are taking part in the poll, but I did come up with 7 good reasons for the Asian presence in Austin :

1. There's are Asian restaraunts and nail salons in nearly every strip center in Austin.

2. Take a drive along North Lamar between Rundberg and Braker Lane where there are several Asian restaurants and shopping centers that cater to the Asian presence in the area in "letters" that I believe to be in Japanese.

3. The Asian population has passed the black population in Austin.

4. At the University of Texas in Austin there are tons of Asians who go to school there. Take about a mile long drive down Guadalupe Street between MLK and 24th street and you'll see a relatively high number of Asians out and about taking care of business all along the sidewalks.

5. The high tech industry in Austin brings several Asians to Austin.

6. Almost everywhere you go in Austin, it's not unusual to see quite few Asians. The Asian presence in Austin is becoming more and more felt as time marches on.

7. It's only a matter of time until Austin elects an Asian to be their mayor.

8. In the grocery stores, you'll find a good selection of Asian foods, drinks and spices that might be considered by Asian versions as "comfort foods".

I wanted to come up with 10 reasons, but I could only think of 8.
Oh well. And so it goes.
