Hello, I'm in the process of narrowing down citys I want to start applying for jobs to and hoping to get input from this community on their top pick and their pros/cons if they have any.
I'm currently a business analyst (IT) and am also single (30, male) from Omaha. What I'm mainly looking for is better
1) job market for my area
2) dating scene
3) at being multi-cultural, Im from a bi-racial family
4) still be somewhat affordable
Ive been pulling alot of data from city data and narrowed it down to the following top 10 based primarily on a combination of cost of living and number of postings I found on glassdoor related to my background vs city size.
Here's the list, I do want to visit some of them to help narrow this down further but hope feedback here will save some time with having to visit all of them.
Dallas
Houston
Austin
St. Louis
Kansas City
Tampa
Charlotte
Raleigh
Atlanta
Des Moines
Based on your criteria I would nix Saint Louis (poor job market), Des Moines (it's a smaller city that's not particularly diverse), Austin (not affordable).
That leaves you with...
Atlanta
Charlotte
Dallas
Houston
Kansas City
Raleigh
Tampa
For your industry (IT), I would nix Tampa and Kansas City, leaving you with a narrowed down 5:
St. Louis does not have a terrible job market, honestly, but it probably has the weakest dating scene out of all of those cities. Still, it's worked out for me. Overall, I think you have the right cities in mind for your criteria. I really like St. Louis and Kansas City myself, but I would suggest keep applying and go where you're hired. Good luck!

I think all 5 hit what you're looking for.
Gun to my head, Atlanta or Dallas.
This post is spot on! I agree. Atlanta or Dallas or third Raleigh (it's a lot smaller than Atlanta and Dallas) But it is a powerhouse in IT and Education and the dating pool is endless, diverse and smart and if often compared to Austin (which has unfortunately become quite expensive) Raleigh also is 2 hours to beach and 3 to the mountains.

You know, I'm not positive Austin is that much more than Atlanta in COL. I think Atlanta has been picking up steam.
For your criteria, I'm going to leave out St. Louis and Des Moines. Here's the buying power index (average wages vs. average cost of living/housing. National average being 300) for the metros that are left. The lower the score the better:
Kansas City - 285.90
Houston - 282.40
Charlotte - 291.20
Dallas/Ft. Worth - 304.35
Tampa/St. Petersburg - 307.27
Atlanta - 311.35
Raleigh/Durham - 315.04
Austin - 335.45
I'd go with Charlotte, Houston, Dallas, or Atlanta. IMO, the best of the bunch. Very good economies, affordable, and have high qualities of life.

Didn't think Raleigh would be that high.
