Richmond at 40/17.62 coming into October, on pace to finish year at ~53 murders, a marked decrease from last year's 67. Norfolk at 26/10.61, on pace for ~35 murders, a decline of one from last year's 36...

Virginia Beach at 10/2.22, on pace for ~13 murders this year, compared to last year's 14, and Raleigh is at 12/2.58, on track to finish year at ~16, which would be a substantial decline from 2017's 26 murders...

Sacramento is at 31/6.18. The city is on track to finish with ~41, an increase from last year's 39 murders...

Is the 67 number for the city on previous list just a typo then?

I don't believe anyone has listed that Richmond has had 67 this year...

Its October now, so does this mean Chicago is on pace to have less than 500 homicides? Does 81 murders from now till December 31st sound reasonable?

I mean who knows. It went a decade hovering around 440 per year, then spiked when the police pulled back and they changed how they patrolled and stopped people.

I would think it'll probably be around 550. It's sad to sit around guessing at things like that though, people losing their lives.

Chicago is on pace for ~560-561 murders by year end, if the current trajectory holds. That would be the lowest since 2015's 478 murders...

The year isn't over yet, anything can still happen. We're talking about Chicago after all. Over here we say: 'don't sell the fur until you shot the bear'.
