I'm glad at least Altanta closed the gap even though any increase is still not acceptable. The first half of the year had a huge increase compared to the year before, but it showed down in the later half.

Atlanta has really quieted down in this last half of the year. I am happy about any decreases at this point. I think 2016 was a blip. Now I would like to see some numbers for the suburbs, as that is where homicides seem to be trending upwards over the recent years.

What's up with Zone 2? The others are going down, even Zone 1. But homicides are way up in one of the wealthiest parts of the city.

San Diego stands at 28 (for a city of 1.4M+). Assuming no homicides this week, the rate per 100,000 is at 1.9. Lowest homicide rate and violent crime rate in the country.

#31 for Montreal, up 9 compared to last year. Another person gunned down in St. Leo, possibly mob related.

Virginia Beach had our 15th homicide in Kempsville last night (15/3.33). That puts us one over last year's 14 murders, but still two below our annual average of 17...

Norfolk sits at 33 murders with a week left in the year, down from 2017's total of 36, but right square at the annual average (33)...

So Montreal's murder rate is now around 1.88 per 100,000; Toronto is around 3.48 per 100,000, and this is a record year for them? Even its record homicide count in '91 was a rate of ~3.91. Toronto and Montreal numbers look OUTSTANDING for almost any American city...

Toronto is in the same size bracket as Boston, Dallas, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Miami, Washington, and Houston. It's not even close, Toronto is way safer than either city...

Montreal is in the same size bracket as San Diego, Minneapolis, Seattle, Detroit, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Boston, and has a lower murder rate than even San Diego (currently at 1.98), which is consistently the safest major American city. Montreal in a "bad year" is still safer than the safest American city in a "good year" (San Diego typically averages in the 35-40 range)...

For Montreal, the estimated population on the island in 2017 was around 2.033 mill, so our rate is about 1.4/1.5 per 100,000 (possibly less now but not sure). Still safe but it's the first time in six years we reached 30+ and the last thing we want here is another turf war starting. Toronto has just been weird as hell this year and previous years and I hope to God that 2019 won't be worse than this year, but there is a pretty bad turf war going on there between local gangs. At the end of the day though, I just hope every city sees huge decreases in crime per year.
