Interesting and I'm wondering where they got that information, as I looked at the SPD website and didn't find that information.

If that is correct, then that is up from 21 last year.

Most Murderous decade In American History Is The 1980's"

And Since the 1980's, only six big cities have held the dubious distinction title of U.S " murder capital, "as measured on a per capita basis.Besides St Louis, they include -

Detroit [ 6 times murder capital ]
New Orleans [ 13 times murder capital ]
Birmingham [ once in 2005 ]
Washington D.C [ 8 times ]
Richmond Virginia [ also once, in 1997 ]

While Chicago's murder rate is far from the highest in the nation,it has led the U.S in murder totals each year since 2012.Dating back to 1985, only two other cities have held this distinction: New York and Los Angeles, which are also the only two American cities with larger populations than Chicago's.

Based on all time murder rate for the 3 biggest cities,

#3 New York City all time murder rate is 27 per 100k [ 1990 ]
#2 Chicago all time murder rate is 33 per 100k [ 1974 ]
#1 Los Angeles all time murder rate is 34 per 100k [ 1980 ]
I saw that Pew Research Center article, but the actual murder capitals have been as follows

Gary, IN (11times) 1993, 1995-2003, 2005
NOLA (7 times) 1994,2004, 2006-2009, 2011
Detroit (5 times) 1985-1987, 2012, 2013
D.C. (5 times) 1988-1992
St. Louis (5 times) 2014-2018
Flint, MI (1 time) 2010

I did misread it as you say, it was an estimation.
