I wonder if in a few years the 2000's are just going to look like a brief respite. The last 2 years seem more in line with the past few decades, but hopefully that is not the case. (Chicago as an example):
Some places like NYC and LA have permanently turned the corner... but that may simply because they have priced out crime (gentrification leading to displacement of populations outside city limits to another impoverished, high crime area.)

If gentrification is what it takes to get rid of crime, then gentrification it is
yeah in NYC crime is very spread out...
There are kind of people who just can't be tough, can't be peaceful... so either you put them in jail when they did something or just get rid of them
