Philadelphia because its the biggest gets. We're not talking Chicago vs. NYC, that's for sure.

Agree 100%.

These cities all offer tame nightlife in comparison to NYC, Chicago, Miami, Vegas, and New Orleans. You could also throw Atlanta, Austin, and Nashville in there.

SF. But the party scene isn't in downtown, rather than up north. (Columbus st)

Same here and would definitely like to check out those spots you mentioned. We did find one spot in Boston proper on a weeknight that had some live R&B music so that was cool.

I have some friends in Philly also, including a childhood friend from Jamaica. He used to come and visit me in Boston to go see different Dancehall acts because according to him most of them do not have Philly on their schedule.
yeah, i drove up to see chronixx at blue hill in september because he no come thru philly.

Aside from the 2am closing time (which Philly has as well), what exactly is underwhelming about SF's nightlife? It has a ton of every type of nightlife establishment you could want and generally a very fun and vibrant nightlife scene.

The 2am last call has nothing to do with it. LA has a 2am last call and nightlife is epic there.

SF is dull. Most nightlife in SF is very over priced, for the type of venues offered. The cover charges are insanely high. In LA you will pay high cover charge, because Lindsay Lohan and her crew booked the VIP, and they are doing high grade coke in the bathroom and offering samples to total strangers

For the same price in SF you are in a club with tech dweebs, that don't even hit the dance floor, or mingle with other patrons.

Live music venues in SF are terrible, always too small, over priced, cramped, and almost exclusively playing the same lame EDM.

An insane amount of Bars are "cash only". Owners love to skimp in their taxes. So if you are a normal person and have a card, forget it. Step back into the 20th century and bring wads of cash.

The woman leave something to be desired. We call the SF Bay Area 49ers. Look like 4s and act like they are 9s.So Cal suburbs like Newport, Pasadena, and Hermosa have way better looking people than the entire city of SF.

The crowds are DULL. SF is a workaholic city/metro area. So very few people like to party hardy. Very few people party into the wee hours of the morning. So late night and 24hr dining leaves something to be desired. The people who party hard in SF are usually tourists, or bros commuting in from the east bay suburbs.

Yea SF dies out pretty early. Very few people are out past 1AM. Everyone prefers to get up early and do Yoga. Which is fine. But in terms of nightlife. SF is dead last.

How many people who are responding have spent time in all 3 cities? That’s just not right re: SF.

Not even close - you will find several neighborhoods bustling with nightlife at 1 or 2 am, even on most weekdays. The Mission, Polk Street, North Beach, SOMA, etc. Boston isn’t close to SF when it comes to nightlife. Philly and SF are close, but I actually give the edge to SF. It wins in variety and quantity pretty handily. Yes, people in Philly are friendlier and more outgoing, but that’s not enough to make its nightlife better.

As someone said, none of these cities are NYC, Chicago, or LA. But when compared to each other, it’s hard to see how any objective analysis could put SF last.

Dude, no. I've lived in both. Totally average.

SF and Boston are pretty similar in the neighborhood department as far as nightlife. Stuffs definitely going on any night, but it's nothing that you can't find in any major(ish) city. Problem with Boston are the lines. Lines out of every popular bar with no end in sight, especially on Broadway/in Seaport.

The two cities, just in general, are so scarily similar on many levels.. that's a separate conversation all together. Once you add Cambridge into the mix with Boston, which is as easily accessible as any city neighborhood within Boston itself, it's splitting hairs. Neither are drawing bachelor parties, that's for sure.

Phila wins based on size alone.

I guess to each their own - I have a hard time seeing that big of a difference between SF and Philly’s nightlife, and both seemed to offer more than Boston (which, incidentally, is what the poll bears out), but you can’t argue with individual taste I suppose.
