DFW is higher than Houston in all categories. That’s not surprising. I am surprised how high DFW is for Midwest transplants, though. Could actually pass the Twin Cities. I think these are literally going by census definitions though. DC has the most Southern transplants?

Yeah.
The Southern numbers for the Washington D.C. metropolitan area consists of folks born in AL, MS, GA, NC, SC, FL, TX, OK, LA, AR, TN, DE, and KY. It doesn't include people from MD, VA, or WV because the metropolitan area is hosted in those three states and the information is for people born out of state.

I expected it. It's geographical positioning is in the southern Great Plains, it is maybe becoming to the Great Plains what Chicago is to the Great Lakes.

Dallas/Fort Worth is more closely linked to the United States and its internal migration dynamics than is Houston. In contrast, the opposite is the case when it comes to links and connections overseas where the smaller Houston is more linked to overseas territories than is Dallas/Fort Worth. In sum, Houston has a higher profile of foreign-borns, whereas Dallas has a higher profile of people from every edge and corner of the United States.
There are a small minority number of metropolitan areas that have more foreign-born immigrants than domestic-born migrants, about 5 places in all. Houston is one of those five, the other four are New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco/Oakland, and Miami/Fort Lauderdale.
So the majority of metro DC's domestic migration is from the South. This should make it clear that the metro area is more southern than it is northeastern. I say this as someone living here.

No. This just means that Southerners like this region and view it as a desirable place to live or like the job opportunities vs where they are from. That doesn't include the natives that at least North of the Potomac River in DC or MD that I don't consider southern, and DC is also 4th in Northeastern transplant population only trailing New York, Philadelphia, and Miami. There are more New York and New Jersey or PA tags in our metro area than any other outside the NE corridor in the U.S.. This is true. I am originally a Carolina boy and I now live in Atlanta, but quite a few of my friends upon graduation were looking at primarily DC or Atlanta. So many people from NC are in Atlanta and DC it is indeed a big migration to those 2 cities.

You do realize this is based on metro, and DC’s metro includes large swath of Virginia, an unquestionably southern state? This means that a lot of Southerners live in the metro, because they were born there. It says nothing about domestic migration.
DFW and Atlanta really are powerhouses of domestic migration. Atlanta doesnt pull from the West Coast like DFW does and DFW doesnt pull from the Northeast like Atlanta does, but both very strong.
