Virtually all Americans would know the first tier cities. Also considering international recognition, which would be put as no. 1?

Out of these options:

I'll order them by tiers:

Tier 1:

Wall Street
5th Avenue
Broadway
Hollywood Boulevard
Sunset Boulevard
Pennsylvania Avenue
Rodeo Drive

Tier 2:

Santa Monica Boulevard
Mulholland Drive
Haight/Ashbury St
Michigan Avenue
Massachussetts Avenue
Market Street
Peachtree Street
34th Street
Beale Street
Bourbon Street

They're not in order, but I'd say the most famous of all would be out of Wall Street, Broadway and Hollywood Boulevard. As you can see NY and LA utterly dominate, not surprisingly.

Would you agree, disagree?

Wall Street has to be the most famous for sure. The problem with Broadway and 5th Avenue is that may not have as solid name-recognition simply because they are generic names for roads (i.e. lots of cities have those two street names, you say "5th Ave" not sure everyone will immediately associate that with NYC, unlike say Wall Street) - but considering what they represent they are definitely extremely famous.

In LA Wilshire Blvd is very famous, but I'm not sure how well known it is outside of the city and nation-wide.

Another famous set of LA streets - Florence and Normandie

I would have to say Wall Street on this one. As it refers basically to Lower Manhattan also. It's similar to calling LA "Hollywood" ... people often call NYC "Wall Street"

I'd probably put 5th ave and Rodeo Drive as the 2nd and a tie... The two most well known shopping areas in the country.

Until I came on this forum I had no idea what 34th street or Beale Street was.

Bourbon street might be the most famous street in the south.

Michigan Avenue, State Street (Frank Sinatra) and Wacker Dr. are famous from songs/movies ... but don't think they are that famous.

In SF Haight/Ashbury has to easily be the most famous, I don't think the others are famous... Lombard is pretty famous even if people don't know the name of it.

I think Wall Street crushes every other street name in America in terms of being internationally famous.

I'm in the DC area, so it's hard for me to get a grasp on how well-known Pennsylvania Avenue is outside this region. Most Americans will have heard of it. But I'd be impressed if I came across someone living abroad who knows what Pennsylvania Avenue is in Washington, D.C.

-and-

Boulevard of Broken Dreams

I think I would agree with your list, but would add Park Avenue into the first tier.

Also, for NYC, while 34th Street is important, it's much less important than 42nd Street, 57th Street, and Madison Avenue. Those should probably be considered for First or Second Tiers.

Wall Street is famous for what it represents, not the street itself. It's like picking Abbey Road as the most famous street in London. Technically it's true, but...

Haha@Sesame Street above but yeah Wall Street is definitely the obvious winner. You would think Pennsylvania would get more recognition for being the street of The White House but it doesn't get nearly as much publicity as Wall Street.
