Los Angeles still has a severe smog problem, a big gang problem, and deep racial problems. More liberal elites/closet conservatives. Traffic is pretty damn bad as well. Pricey too.

NYC is a recipe for an elevated stress level no matter what profession. Too many Donald Trumps and Scaramuccis in NYC. Too much attitude. Too confrontational. Too congested. Too much traffic. Commute is outrageous. Cost astronomical. Racism and classism galore. Want a shortened lifespan? Move to NYC.

DC is similar to NYC, only closer to Dixie. No.

San Francisco has one of the lowest rates of hate crimes and segregation in the United States. It's very progressive and is one of the most inclusive cities in the nation. The most liberal city in America.

Los Angeles has one of the lowest levels of hate crimes in the United States and the 'gang problem' is nonexistent unless you live in the hood. Liberal elite does not mean closet conservatives.

NYC has one of the highest lifespans in the United States.

Want to Live Longer? Move to NYC

I never liked the term "Capital of the World" for any City...It sounds snobbish

Of course New York City is larger in population and economy because it had a much earlier start compared to L.A or San Francisco, but you forgot to notice something very important.

Once upon a time,L.A and even San Francisco were just villages/pueblos while NYC was already a large city with an established economy...In other words NYC was way ahead of L.A or San Francisco.

Within a relatively short time....L.A caught up rapidly to become America's 2nd largest city surpassing Chicago and creating America's 2nd largest metro economy as well.
San Francisco despite it's much smaller population has become a "Well Renowned City" and also has a World Famous Landmark "The Golden Gate Bridge" and is part of the 7th largest metro economy in the Country and part of a region that created many modern innovations we use today.

L.A and San Francisco's achievement is outstanding, and yup what's great for the West Coast has surely spread all the way to the East Coast and around the World

It will remain this way for a long time to come. Los Angeles and San Francisco are great for the west coast though.

If there's a world capital, it is NYC, or (maybe) London.

This is definitely an American's perspective. lol.

If anything, I think most people with experience with cultures around the world will agree that London fits the bill more than NYC if such a preposterous question were ever raised because London has much more historic ties with more areas of the world than NYC. In any event,

I say 'preposterous' because NYC or any other city claiming some sort of hegemony over the likes of Beijing, Moscow, Mumbai etc, is laughable.

Even within the US, NYs 'kingdom' really doesnt extend past appalachia. Chicago, DC, Boston, Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, Houston, LA and SF are all 'capitals' over wide geographic regions in their own right.

Precisely...I think it's offensive to other Countries/Cities/Cultures when some people refer to NYC as The Capital of The World.

Out here in California we only know 2 Capitals...One is Washington DC and the other is Sacramento

Just because nyc doesn’t directly impact Mumbai culturally doesn’t mean you can’t engage in discussion as to which cities are most influential on a world scale. NYC on a world stage from an economic perspective and otherwise is one of the worlds most influential cities and a case can easily be made for number 1.

He didnt say 'influential' and I'll definitely agree that NYC is definitely influential on many fronts as far as cities go-obviously. LA is too btw.

But, no, he said 'capital of the world' and that assertion is absolutely cringeworthy to anyone who is familiar with how huge and varied the world is.

You're looking at it the wrong way. Just because the geography of the states expands more square mileage out west doesn't equate to LA and SF truly being more influential to the same extent. There is a bunch of nothingness if you drove East from SF to Denver Colorado or Kansas. Just because there's basically nothing in between doesn't prop up the status of SF any higher. There are probably a couple hundred million people living East of the Mississippi so there will always be a proximity issue. However the Eastern cities in question here supersede even there own regional dominance. They dictate who, what, where, when, and why things get to happen definitely across this country and also aboard.
