Move over, New York. Connecticut is the new center for America’s power couples.
7 of the top 10 power couple states are in the Bos-Wash metro.
Bloomberg analyzed the household income level it took in each state for a dual-career married couple to qualify for the top 1 percent of earners. Connecticut not only came in first -- at $871,600 -- it was also among the few states where the minimum threshold increased by more than 10 percent from a year earlier.
New York, the previous year’s winner, fell to second, with a one-percenter’s minimum income almost unchanged at $789,800. New Jersey stayed in the third spot.
List:
1. Connecticut
2. New York
3. New Jersey
4. California
5. Massachusetts
6. Maryland
7. Virginia
8. Illinois
9. Washington
10. Rhode Island
When lists like this are done, it would be better if they collected data just from Northern Virginia rather than VA as a whole, we would've ranked higher.

Either way, interesting list.
Funny when people say this, when that can be said for any state.
But regardless, NoVa (where I am) doesn’t have nearly the 1% wealth found in areas like Connecticut, NYC and Silicon Valley.

Yeah, and if NY only counted Downstate and Long Island......

That 1% in CT, though, isn't "power couple-ish", it's insanely wealthy entrepreneurs and wall street executives. You can just *feel* the money driving around many parts of CT.
Power couples I've always viewed as 2 powerful people, regardless of income, which I'd think would put DC area closer to the top with CT, NY, NJ and CA. Guess I was wrong though, by definition, since they're looking at income of couples.

That wouldn't make a difference on this list, since they're taking the top 1% of the income in the entire state....
This basically tells you where the richest couples live. "Power couple" is a click bait term IMO

Also, couldn't you apply that thought process to almost every state? Illinois, Massachusetts, and New York would certainly agree..
