Maybe I visited on an off weekend but I found South Beach to be fairly seedy.
South Beach sucks, but it isn’t the end-all and be-all of Miam nightlife. Hell, it isn’t the end-all and be-all of Miami Beach nightlife. Even SoBe has some cool, low-key spots. They just aren’t on Ocean Dr or Collins Ave.
Miami has many options besides South Beach. Luckily....
Within the city of Miami, the hotspots are SoBe, Wynwood and to Brickell. SoBe has become trashy so locals either go to Wynwood or Brickell. But, the downtown nightlife might also die down as one major club (Heart) shut down due to noise complaints (and also got bought) and others are lined up to follow the same path. Don't be surprised if this spreads to Wynwood too, but that's all I'll say about this manner .Miami's nightlife is also changing and is copying what other cities do (as usual) which is bars/smaller establishments. It has picked up lately there but is still far behind major cities in North America.

Other cities have copied Miami for a while, so I don't see the crime with Miami following other trends. Miami has always had bars and smaller establishments in the ethnic neighborhoods and enclaves. Just not the same types that you see in other cities. Maybe you meant Miami is "far behind" other North American cities in smaller establishments that cater to a certain niche of tourist....
Maybe you mean that micropub/micro brewery trend?
Either way, luckily there are more areas than SoBe Wynwood and Brickell to experience nightlife in SoFla.

Oh South Florida, absolutely! Miami itself? Not so much.
I personally prefer Broward anyway, since most of my friends are there. My gay friends in Miami also head up there now as well.

And how have other cities copied Miami? that's new to me. And just in general: rooftop bars, brewpubs, arts districts, that third wave cafe culture/hipster vibe etc... stuff that you've seen elsewhere since the 80s-90s have been implemented in Miami recently, thus being very far behind.

I agree with you on the thirdwave hipster culture. That seems relatively new. But Cafes, Rooftop bars, have been in Miami for decades. That stuff isn't recent at all. Maybe you meant cafes and rooftop bars that cater to the hipster niche are relatively new in Miami? What cities are so far ahead that Miami is trying to play catch up? And when I said copying Miami, I meant in terms of megaclubs that host certain themed nights that play certain genres of music. I don't see how Miami establishing micro pubs and other forms of nightlife makes Miami a copycat, yet other cities doing themed nights ala LIV isn't seen as them copying Miami. It's not one sided. Every city borrows nightlife ideas from others. And if we're discussing city proper Vs metro area than the beach towns North of Miami in palm beach and broward have had their own scenes for a while with their own localized eateries, pubs, dive bars, lounges, etc. Hardly any of this stuff is all that recent in SoFla outside of the thirdwave hipster culture. Now I agree that Miami is playing catch up in terms of high culture ala museums, galleries etc. But by the looks of it, it's catching up pretty quickly and seems to show no slowing down. Weather you think Art Basel or Wynwood, or Perez Art museum have all jumped the shark or seem to commercial and touristy is up to your own determination. But Miami has transformed it's arts scene and by default has diversified it's nightlife scene to the point that its on par with the non LA/Non NY/Non Toronto cities in terms of its art related cultural offerings.
Savannah has fun nightlife (more than its given credit for), and Key West is quite the party town.
