NYC is in last call mode at 3:30 AM, the bars have to stop serving alcohol by 4 every night
I think that only in Vegas and New Orleans could you start your night at 3:30, and even then your options would be limited on a Wednesday
Good point re: Vegas and New Orleans.
Another question: is it really possible that Boston only has half the number of bars open at 1:15am compared to solid - but not great - nightlife cities like Denver, Seattle, and Dallas? I saw on the map that Cambridge, Brookline, Somerville, etc. were all included and still only 167 vs around 400 for Dallas, Seattle and Denver. That’s surprising.

I've been to Boston and the bars I've been to were all starting to shut down around that time (or a little later) even on weekends. From my limited experience, not a great nightlife city.
Even in Vegas, most clubs seem to shut down around 4, but there are after hours spots open. I'm not sure if any of the regular bars stay open later than that.
New Orleans bars seem to stay open as late as 5 or 6 on weekends, and I believe there some 24 hour spots but they're not the norm.

Yeah, it’s interesting that New Orleans is towards the bottom half of the list when looking at number of bars open at 1:15 (because it’s a relatively small city). But then at 3:30 its among the best.
I’ve never been to Buffalo but I’ve heard good things about their nightlife scene. It makes sense when you remember Buffalo is in New York State which is one of the most lenient States when it comes to last call time.
What Buffalo should do is try to make itself more of a nightlife destination that can bring in tourists from Niagara Falls and maybe even become a regional destination for the growing Toronto area which is stuck with a 2am last call! I doubt this will happen, but it would be cool. I feel there is a lot of untapped potential there.
People may not realize that the Albany area also has a 4 AM last call. So, that is another area that may surprise people in terms of the number of bars open after 1 AM.
