I agree, it is really no contest.. Sounds like the West Coasters are suffering from "We Are Better than the East" syndrome..

I thought it was funny too, and I knew what it was satirizing.

It's good that The New Yorker had a forever Kansas Citian writing for them, though, to help give them some perspective.

This is incredibly ironic coming from you, sir. You just described every post you make about Chicago.

I feel that cover is an accurate portrayal of how 'native' NYers view the rest of the USA. Whether you like it or not, NYC is by far the biggest and most important city in the USA. Since you are from Chicago, it's similar to probably how you view the other cities in Illinois. As mere blimps on a map.

I think the key is there are not many 'native' NYers - most people in NYC are from somewhere else. Be it another country or another US city. The world is recreated in miniature in NYC. I have lived all over the USA and there is no city that comes close - yes, even you LA or Chicago - that recreates just about every possible ethnic enclave as NYC does.

LA is more integrated than NYC. I dont see how that is controversial. NYC is more diverse, but LA is more integrated.

Not really true. LA is much more segregated than NYC when it comes to Black-White integration. There were race riots in LA as late as the 90s for a reason. Here is a study that details this: https://www4.uwm.edu/eti/integration/integration.htm

Nah, not fair. I'm pretty event handed and very aware of the shortcomings of the city (there are quite a few). I also liberally give props to other cities. I think your post sucks.

I would say if San Jose were on the list: top 5 most cosmopolitan city-diverse population, across the board cultural offering and a vibrant downtown core. Kudos to SJ!!!!!!
