What town(s) on the U.S.-Mexico border would you consider moving to or living in, if you didn't have to worry about employment?

I'd consider...

San Diego, CA for the climate and access to the Pacific beaches;

Nogales, AZ for the landscape and climate and relaxed pace of life; and

Brownsville, TX for the sub-tropical climate and closeness to the Gulf Coast beaches.

San Diego is the obvious front runner. 2nd would be El Paso for it's low crime rate and scenery. I literally don't know a thing about the others

San Diego ftw.
El Paso would be 2nd.
McAllen Texas would be 3rd do to its low cost of living and close to South Padre Island.

Yes, otherwise El Paso would win with a difference. Excellent climate, low cost of living, low crime, great scenery and history as well as a nice hometown feeling while still being a good sized city. ELP is currently experiencing growth which includes lots of construction projects.
