Pittsburgh.

Vienna named the world's most liveable city knocking out Melbourne | Daily Mail Online

I love Pittsburgh. Great to see it getting some recognition. Surprised to see Honolulu rate the highest of all US cities though.

There are three Canadian cities in the top 20, and the best American city is 23rd. You have to go to 32 to find Pittsburgh. Oh Canada.

To save everyone one the clickbait click, here are the North American cities on the list in the order they appear for their country:

United States

Honolulu*
Pittsburgh
Washington DC
Minneapolis
Boston
Chicago
Miami
Seattle
San Francisco
Atlanta
Los Angeles
Detroit
Houston
New York City
San Juan*

Canada

Calgary
Vancouver
Toronto
Montreal

Mexico

Mexico City

The only surprising thing here is no Philly love.

Yeah, I wonder what is the reasoning behind that. Sure, it's a beautiful place but it's prohibitively expensive.

A strange list indeed! One has to be careful not to put too much weight on these "surveys". Awhile back I read an similar article on the Top Ranked Vacation Destinations. Thought it was odd that Portland OR was #1 because I would never, ever consider Portland for a vacation and suspect that most people feel that way. Dug a little further and found that the highest weighted factor in the survey was "Number of farmer's markets". Like people first look to the number of farmer's markets when making vacation plans. NOT! It's clear that the goal of the survey was to make Portland look good as a vacation destination, not create an objective ranking.

I suspect such jiggery-pokery is at play here.........

If being affordable counts, that might be a big part of it.
