Atlanta is gaining in relevance
1)Tech Sector growth Atlanta has a higher educated workforce with advanced degrees than Houston, In the top 50 most educated places there are 3 cities including Atlanta proper within the metro area listed.None listed in Houston.
https://www.degreequery.com/most-educated-places-us/
Out of the top 25 Tech sectors in the US Atlanta is ranked but Houston is not.
Two cities in the Atlanta metro made the list(Norcross at #14 and #99 for Suwanee) but none in Houston.

2)The entertainment Sector-Georgia supased California in film production
Georgia has just surpassed California, the UK and Canada as the No. 1 filming location worldwide,
https://www.wsbtv.com/news/local/geo...orld/526190458

3)Research /Education/Policy Studies-Atlanta doesnt just have name brands its got institutions like its research facilities in its universities like Emory and GaTech,as well as colleges like Morehouse and Spelman which attract a number of African and Caribbean blacks.
The CDC headquarters there,The Carter Center,The King Center,CARE International Headquarters to name a few international agencies.

4)International Travel-Among U.S. airports, the top ten respresented a dominant share of the international traffic.
Atlanta was #6 and Houston#6.Atlanta had the highest growth as well

5)Interntional Buisness-There are more international headquarters of foreign companies in Atlanta.Companies like Porsche,Mercedes Benz, Peugeot,Thyseen Krupp North America,Intercontinental Hotel Group all have their headquarters in Atlanta and many others,Khune+Nagel and many more.
Houston has more F500 companies(American based)

6)Conventions/tourism-Atlanta is one of the top convention cities in the world Houston is not even on the same level.52 Million people came to Atlanta last year.More than Vegas.
Music festivals also are huge business in Atlanta also

7)Hip Hop-Atlanta is known world wide as the capital of Hip Hop now.I have met people from France,to Denmark know Atlanta artist.Houston may have Beyonce but not many outside of maybe America knows she is from Houston.Trap music has now entered the world realm of music including EDM and Atlanta is the number one Trap Destination.

Now every city now a days competes with others in someways but Atlanta leads those smaller metros you mention in almost every major category,In many cases by far.Houston,Dallas and Atlanta are contemporaires no matter what you make think,Every survey usually as all three neck and neck in ,growth, jobs, etc.
Hip hop? Yes mainstream wise ill give the nod to ATL. But has for actual hip hop culture and underground music ill say Houston. Houston has a culture that has been copied by multiple regions including ATL. A perfect example would be syrup sipping which started in Houston. Screwed and chopped music which also started in Houston is very popular overseas. Little dragon a popular group from Sweden made a chopped and screwed album with the chopstars.

I know personally in the Middle East Houston is more well known than atlanta. Also Houston has a international port for trade. This thread should not be close.

Mainstream is all that counts to people that know it which is greater than underground hip hop.You can argue which cities have better scenes but thats not the topic. When two chains had that Pink Trap house, there were people form all over the world reading and following that attraction. That goes by sales and Atlanta has by far the most top selling artist.

I dont disagree that Houston had a period where it was copped but Atlanta developed Trap and Trap is still king around the world in hip hop,

A friend from Toulouse,France left his country to live in Atlanta after his first visit around the early 2000's.He is white but loves everything about the Atlanta scene INCLUDING the underground scene which although Im not much of a hip hop head,he seems to be in the know.
He stayed until he couldnt stay any longer after 3 months due to Visa requirements. He now lives in Montreal as he has no desire to return to France

Houston has a port but an Airport is also a port and Atlantas reigns supreme.Much of that reason also has to do with the port of Savannah.A port does not necessarily have to be in the same city to be of importance. Part of the reason so many Auto foreign compnaies have headquartered in Atlanta because of the ports in Savannah and Brunswick where most cars from Europe arrive

Well of course it is!The Middle East is one region.Atlanta is more well known in Africa. And not just among the oil industry,Lets put some reality.Houston is more diverse but some of you are acting like its night and day,
Atlanta Arab population is .06% in Houston its .09%.Looking at several immigrant communities its similar margins but not a runaway.
Like for instance Houston has one of the largest Vietnamese populations. Its percentage is at 1.7% of its total population.Atlanta is more than 3x land wise the size of Atlanta but if you were to make Atlanta the same size, there would be 2 cities in Atlanta metro that are well over 14% and 20% Vietnamese.I have a house 5 min from one of those cities.(Morrow and Lake City GA)

Houston has a HUGE footprint,Most TX cities do so it helps make its seem there is more of a difference than there really is,

That’s why it’s best to look at the metro area. Because when you do, you will see that Houston has a much larger Vietnamese population. The Asian population is also nearly doubled as well coming close to 600,000. The Hispanic population is no contest and I would not be quick to say Africa is more well known than Houston in Africa. Both metro areas have roughly the same number of Africans.

Tokyo has more international connections but not very multicultural or diverse but who on here would suggest Houston is more international? Not me
Houston is definitely more international than Helsinki and Oslo. Houston's counterpart in Europe for level of international profile is probably Copenhagen.

Houston is definitely not more international than Moscow or Tokyo.

That said, diversity is definitely an enhancement to an international profile. If you take two cities that have similar international profiles and one is way more diverse, that one wins out.

Dude you are the homer just like we all are.More than 90% of people on here are homers .Now if you are suggesting that I have lied then you are welcome to prove where I lied.If not you should learn to have better comprehension of what is actually being said

Apparently you upset because you have not disproved anything I said.ESPECIALLY when Ive said a couple of times that Houston is more diverse but if you wanna keep being ignorant then be my guest
Atlanta Nigerian population by percentage is the exact same size.Get your facts right.

You may not be aware but there is no title of "most international and cosmopolitan".Sorry to bust your bubble.
Anyway all that international and cosmopolitaness and yet...............//www.city-data.com/forum/44987041-post1.html

I don't think you are aware of this but percentage doesn't matter when it comes to recognition. Whatever percentage of Houston's metro is notably larger than that of Atlanta's. Regardless, more Nigerians in this example live in Greater Houston than Greater Atlanta, so if we assume there are 500k Nigerians in the former and 350k in the latter, that means, all else equal, more people back in Nigeria would have links to Houston than to Atlanta.

Also, please learn how lonks were. We don't have access to your computer through this website.

I will say Houston is more international. It has twice the amount of foreign airlines as Atlanta.
