Are the notoriously and consistantly most liberal states and regions of the United States, the Northeast, New England, Minnesota, and the Pacific Coast states more like Canada or the South in terms of culture, politics, demographics, climate?

Something I’d like to point out is that there are HUGE differences even within those three areas. Quebec is different than Alberta, North Carolina is different than Louisiana, and Rhode Island is different that Minnesota.
To the point where individual states and regions will be closer to states or regions in another category than to each other. For example, New Hampshire may be more similar to New Brunswick than to Alabama, however it may also be more similar to North Carolina than to California.
