If you're a Chinese mafioso or have illicit wealth, than Vancouver is for you.

If you want a city with a good economy, high wages and low cost of living, then it's Minneapolis without doubt.

Vancouver isn't as expensive if you're a renter, and it's also easy to not have a car.

If you're trying to buy, prices are absurd of course.

Also not bad as a grad student in a good program, someone with non-illicit wealth, someone working in one of the better tech jobs or higher up on the ladder in some of the larger companies there, a more upscale standardized test tutor, among other things.

Vancouver's passed a lot of laws in recent years that may have cooled the real estate speculation. The prices haven't quite come down to something more reasonable to the average income, but they at least aren't going through explosive growth anymore.
