Battle of the most famous Faux-European style villages throughout the country:
Amenities
Architecture (which one is the most 'authentic'/makes you suspend disbelief the most?)
Fun/Things to Do
Dining
Shopping (Yes, I know its mostly tchotchkes, but you know what you're getting in these places)
Surrounding Natural Scenery (Leavenworth tends to get praise due to it getting snow in the winter)
They're tourist traps, sure, but people seem to like them and have fun. Also, if you know of any other places like this, feel free to chime in.
I go to Helen at least once a year but would never want to live there. Beautiful area with waterfalls and mountains.Saw a bear cub last tme I was there
Helen is nice for a day trip from Atlanta. In addition to the village you can go tubing on the river in the summer. I forgot that it's a multiple choice poll, otherwise I would also have voted for Leavenworth. I just wasn't familiar with it but after seeing the pics with the mountains in the background, it really has an "Alpine" look to it.
I'd also write in Little Switzerland, NC and even Cincinnati (Over the Rhine). I think Michigan has a town like that too.
"Our own deeply weird Bavarian town now has an outpost of Seattle’s Rhein Haus and a posh new hotel."
