Both seen better days.
Both have failing sports teams.
Both seem to be on a comeback.

Both mid west and both rust belt victims.

Which city has the best..

Are we talking Buffalo NY? Mid west?

Cleveland in a landslide victory.

Buffalo is in the Northeast. People need to stop with the incorrect geographical information.

I think some people here regularly get certain cities wrong, on purpose. Because its quite well known among the public where the midwest begins, and you'd think people on THIS board of all places would know better than most.

Why is the census an infallible authority of regions when it comes to Pittsburgh and Buffalo but utterly outdated and silly when DC or. Baltimore are classed as Southern?

After all Buffalo is a lot more like Milwaukee than Providence.

It’s a perfectly acceptable opinion here to say DC is a Northeastern city but it’s practically heresy to say Pittsburgh or Buffalo are Midwestern although Buffalo is just as close to the Midwest/NE border as DC is to the North.

Buffalo is more similar to Toledo, Milwaukee, Ft Wayne etc than Providence, Portland, Even Albany. It’s not absurd to consider it Midwestern.

well I prefer to use the census definitions for everything, if just for the sake of getting rid of needless controversy, so I'm fine with DC/Balt being classified southern. but in the case of the city of Washington DC, it was literally built to represent both north and south, and has always had lots of residentss from both. It is unique and is part of both by design, if not necessarily by geography.

I am a Buffalo homer, but Cleveland being the larger city and metro seems to give it the edge in most of the criteria.

Architecture - While there are similarities, Buffalo currently has a greater ongoing architectural recognition, restoration, and investment effort ongoing. Architectural highlights are also not concentrated to certain areas, but widespread. Edge goes to Buffalo.

Downtown - Cleveland. It has the more concentrated investment and business activity, along with improving residential. In 10 years who knows.

Arts scene - Fine Arts - Cleveland. As far as scene goes, difficult to judge. Buffalo connections to NYC and Toronto bring a lot of exchange and vitality to the area, and home grown scene is overlooked outside the area. Definitely a strong local community in Buffalo, but not sure how to pick a winner here.

Future - Draw, but may currently be slight edge to Buffalo. In the last 2 years Cleveland and Cuyahoga County have lost population at the highest rate among Rust Belt cities, while Buffalo and Erie County have gained population. Jobs in Buffalo have also reached all-time highs in the last 3 years, while Cleveland has yet to fully recover from the last decades of loss. Cleveland GDP did have decent growth in the last year, and if this continues edge may go back toward Cleveland.

Urbanity - Draw - Cleveland if you like bigger, Buffalo if you like denser. Buffalo has 21 neighborhoods with a walkscore over 70, while Cleveland has 5.

Brand - Draw. Equally loved/hated.
