Dallas is actually a super gay friendly city with a very large gay nightlife scene. Its a misconception that Austin is the gayest city in Texas, but actually Dallas is. 7.3% of the city of Dallas is gay compared to about 5% of Austin. The Austin area does have a lot higher concentration of gays in the suburbs as opposed to Dallas though.

Its not a surprise to me at all for that reason.

I actually thought that Houston was the "gayest city in Texas" but that's only because I have a few gay friends who live in Houston who talk about it. So my assumptions are more anecdotal to be completely honest, but that's why it surprises me. I guess it's time to think of Dallas in this light a little differently - that's a good thing for sure.

Yeah, my mom lived in Houston in the 80s and even back then she had openly gay male friends who she went to gay bars and clubs with. Surprised to see it so low.

Somehow, someway, Birmingham is still the bad guy of the state.
