I guess going to a prep school as a "fifth" year could get you a third year on the 17U AAU circuit if you are young enough. Cutoff is something like as long as you aren't 19 by the end of March of whatever year you are still on the 17U level.
But most unsigned seniors can still play 17U right after their 4th year of HS. Did that for a couple tournaments this spring with mine (had looks but never signed a letter of intent in the spring period). He's going the JUCO route though did explore a couple fifth year prep options in order to retain an extra year of NCAA eligibility. In the end, preserving a year of NCAA eligibility didn't seem worth it for him compared to getting right into a JUCO program.
I was talking more about these 4 year prep/boarding schools that also are sending kids straight to (high
level) college. It is what it is and doesn't change "where kids are from." Just that NY probably could have kept more at "home" if they loaded up on those types of schools.
In this sense, there is Milford academy, which has actually been good at keeping/getting some good Football talent to attend. I believe its Basketball program is at its CT campus.
He committed to Providence but decommitted and will be following former PC coach Ed Cooley (a Providence native) to Georgetown where he takes over for Patrick Ewing (a Cambridge native).

Yes, Albany City Rocks is a very good AAU program and they may get some players from MA and CT or those that prep in New England. It’s 15U program made it to the Peach Jam finals, but lost to Chris Paul’s CP3 program. I’d suggest it for those in nearby parts of New England to consider it, as they have several current NBA players come through the program.
I did know that he is from Worcester and got his share of major offers.
Philly only got 3? Damn. I gotta check back at the previous years that number seems too low.
You really gotta dig and get the background on some of these players and where they’re from. For a while I thought Mulready was from Albany, Asemota was from Arizona, and Teng was from Lowell. Wrong state on all of them.
If you think it’s 3 from Philly I bet it’s 4 or 5.
Also a slight correction- George Turkson is from Lowell MA. Not Haverhill.
Asemota is going to Baylor.
Teng going to Michigan State
Jahki is going to USC Georgetown or UConn
Turkson is going to Texas A&M
Mulready is going to Georgetown
Mulready plays at Worcester Academy with Tre Norman (Dorchester MA, Marquette commit #90 2023) at PH and TJ Power (Shrewsbury Ma Native, Duke commit #32 2023) at PF. But they play AAU for BABC (fallen off… but not as bad as the New England Playaz)
Turkson and Teng play together at Bradford Christian Academy in Haverhill MA where their teammates Andre Mills (Texas A & M, Dorchester MA) and Jordan Clayton (Northwestern, Medford MA) also play. Last year- their Mass Rivals team won the Adidas 3SSB 17U.

No. 50 Jahki Howard- Overtime Elite in Atlanta. Native to Boston, MA (Boston MSA)

Now, if only the rest of MA could get their heads out of their behinds and start celebrating local talent, we’d really be talking. Ditto all of these quarterbacks we were talking about.
In Chicago, it’s nightly news. It’s talked about across the metro.
New England has never been known for its ball, outside of the prep schools. It’d be awesome to see local talent get real national attention.

The top players in MA come from all over… except Pittsfield. And the islands.
No one in MA media will talk about HS sports. They mostly focus on whatever is happening in Newton, the Seaport or Tanglewood. Followed by housing prices and traffic. There is basically no such thing as HS sports coverage in New England. And national media certainly wouldn’t. They’ve got to regurgitate the same stories from NYC LA ATL CHI INDY AND MD for the umpteen the time first.lol.
it’s funny reading about Cooper flag and AJ Dybantsa in the local media like ‘AJ is the biggest high school recruit we’ve had since Patrick Ewing! no one‘s ever been number one player in their class in Massachusetts!’ whole time I’m like in 2012 Nerlens Noel was the number one player in his class and he’s born and raised in Massachusetts. They don’t even mention him. When Shabazz and Jalen Adams were thriving at UConn being all big east winning national titles- both from Roxbury. There was zero coverage from Boston media.
Every high level athlete in MA talks about the lack of local support. At least when I was in school. Most lament the fact they have to go to prep schools to get a look. Some kids do wish they could play locally.

It looks 9 of the top 100 are near the Atlanta area. The Atlanta area is a top recruiting ground for basketball and football players.
