I'm actually surprised by this. You tend to prefer places that are more prosperous with less blight.
I have been to Augusta a few times actually. The city has character I feel that Columbia lacked. The people were nice and it had great restaurants. Is Augusta not prosperous with the new jobs announcements and Masters Tournament?

Washington Road, the approach to Augusta National:
I have lived in both areas and they seem similar to me. The main difference is Augusta has a smaller suburban area especially if you leave out the Aiken area.

Enough said.
First, the picture is old since Berckman road expansion got rid of that Stanley Drive sign. Secondly, the area is suburban and not in the old city of Augusta. They’ve built green space, tunnels, new roads, large media center, etc. The ANGC has brought up several nearby properties also. There’s been many attempts by private developers to build non traditional suburban developments. The AGNC is strict and many can’t get passed. A developer wanted to build condos, but they couldn’t be over 3 stories.
This area could have been changed from suburbia to sense of community. It’s doing it now, but mostly on ANGC terms.
This is one new thing you can see approaching ANGC

Please explain how Columbia lacks character compared to Augusta. That's like one of the weirdest things I've ever heard. It honestly doesn't sound as though you're familiar enough with both cities to make an assessment like that.
I said Columbia is MORE prosperous, and that's by practically every measure (GDP, median wages, household incomes, etc).
Columbia, by a LONG shot! Augusta just feels like a small Columbia. Nothing wrong with that though. But Columbia has more going for it now and in the near future.

You'd have to be willfully obtuse to make excuses for what is arguably the ugliest thoroughfare in the state. IME its severest critics are Augustans themselves.
