As you can see it looks nothing similar to your picture in 2018. That’s a big problem with city data. People who don’t know much about cities get on here and portray they do.
Oh, so much better!
Apparently ANGC has been buying up property on Washington for years in an effort to mitigate the blight.

Nice try though.
We do have 2017 numbers. The 2017 employment gain is higher and the unemployment rate decline is higher.

Earlier this month economists at the University of South Carolina's Darla Moore School of Business gave their annual economic outlook presentation to state business and community leaders. According to figures presented during the 37th Annual Economic Outlook Conference, Augusta had the second-highest employment gains among the state's metro areas through October, at 3.2 percent (behind only Myrtle Beach's 3.4 percent), as well as the biggest unemployment rate decline, at -1.2 percent (higher than Myrtle Beach's -0.8 p

I said 2017-2018, meaning into this year. Again, one year doesn't constitute a trend. The fact that you're harping on one year's worth of data says it all.

I don’t see how buying up Jiffy Lube or TGI Friday’s is mitigating the blight. All suburban areas in the US have these businesses.
There’s a house that just went for sale for $15 million off Washington road.
ANGC has been buying up property in order to expand their borders. Everyone knows they eventually want a resort type feel.
Resort? More like a plantation feel...and only the Creme de la Creme need apply.
Bringing the surrounding community into their orbit has never been ANGC's strong suit, I'm afraid.

There's plenty of old money neighborhoods in Augusta. The people associated with the ANGC and Augusta Country Club hang in the same circle. They don't accomodate the average person, but nothing exclusive does.
Augusta has the second largest gay parade by far in Georgia outside Atlanta with 13,000. The plantation comment is laughable.

Those people you refer to are some of the most snobbish, insular, retrograde individuals I've ever encountered. It's a major reason Augusta just can't seem to get it in gear. Other mid-tier Southern cities like Savannah, Charleston, Greenville, Raleigh and yes, Columbia seem to have been able to get past it. Augusta, not so much. Here's hoping they can.

Augusta is not even a peer of Raleigh.. Augusta’s GDP is larger than Savannah’s. In fact, despite both being next to South Carolina. Only Augusta has the pull to include South Carolina counties into the MSA.
The Savannah festival may have beat Augusta in 2018 by 2,000. We don’t know since both are estimates. But as you can see the Savannah parade only have 8 to 9k in 2017. https://www.savannahnow.com/news/201...pride-festival

We seem to be grasping at straws now, unfortunately. You can throw around cherry-picked figures like GDP all you want, but are you really suggesting that Augusta is outshining cities like Raleigh and Savannah on the National, or even International, stage? Surely not.

I agree with your sentiments. I don't think Columbia or Augusta can say they are significantly outshining one another. They both seem to play second fiddle in their states, despite the fact that Columbia is a capital. Raleigh is certainly not a peer to either city, not even close. GDP and economic figures are important metrics, but certainly not the be all end all on which city is more popular, attracting more residents, tourists, or notoriety.
