I don't think I've heard anything about Kalamazoo having a great music scene, especially when compared to Madison, a city that's well known for it's music scene is ranked lower.

Michigan has been known for a while for a great music scene throughout the state due to the college towns and the touring college-band circuited.

What's that dark blue area in coastal mid-Oregon. Eugene? I've never heard of that area being significant. It certainly couldn't be more notable than Austin and Houston.

Besides a generic "music scene" rating, people will obviously like certain music styles over others. What might be a great city for one person can be a horrible one for another.

If were talking the last 3 Decades Atlanta has had a more significant impact then those cities and the only that really can debated is with Atlanta is probably Nashville.

There was study a few years back to rank Music Capital like Fashion Capital, cities that set the trend in music, Atlanta actually came in first that year.

So yes Atlanta is more then worth the debate for 3rd spot currently anyways.

Atlanta is known for Hip hop but Atlanta actually has a strong presence in 3 genres, Hip hop, R&B and gospel.
Thanks for sharing chiatldal.

I'm still not sold on Atlanta being ranked so high, but... I do appreciate the info!!

Everyone doesn't like New York, or Miami...

Basically your statement can be applied to all of the music meccas, so you really have no point...
Quote where I mentioned anything about those cities and I'll get back to you.

Base on attention Atlanta is sort of like the motown of this generation in Black music. Atlanta music is part of reason the city is one of the most prominent cities in black American culture.

'Sing to Me" A book excerpt from the new memoir by music industry legend Antonio 'LA' Reid.

In the 90s LA Reid and Babyface started LAface records in Atlanta, Their significant involved in career of Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, Marriah Carey, in Which many of which record some of there biggiest hits in Atlanta, and have/had homes in Atlanta. It also discover Diamond and Multi platinum selling artists like Usher, TLC among others, TLC is greatest selling American female group of all time. And that just Laface, outside that there where other multi platinum selling R&B artist like 112, Monica, Ciara, jagged edge, Xscape and etc, and many non Atlanta artist Keisha Cole, Booby Brown, T-pain, Neyo, and etc etc have/had called Atlanta.

And that just R&B ^

Atlanta has large black student population, In the late 80's and 90's hundreds of thousands black collage students started going to Atlanta during spring break, the event was called Freaknik, Atlanta started having a reputation for partying and music. And this played Huge role with Atlanta and Hip hop. Atlanta became to go city in Hip hop, dozens of platinum rappers/producers and etc from or relocate to Atlanta.

In the mid 2000's MTV did a gathering called "A great day in Atlanta" to recreate the Great Day in Harlem photo.

A GREAT DAY IN ATLANTA: T.I., JEEZY, LUDACRIS, OTHERS GATHER FOR HISTORIC SHOOT

Because of this Awards show like Soul train and BET Hip hop Awards tend swing back and forth with Atlanta, LA, Miami, and New York.

http://straightfromthea.com/wp-conte...-2-520x730.jpg

It's funny there TV shows about inspiring artists moving to Atlanta because of Atlanta music scene the last few decades.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T2snL9QUIZI

This is why Atlanta was high in those studies, Atlanta being top 3 is very debatable. but if Atlanta is not in the top 5 current cities with influential music scenes something is wrong.

Are you for real? Atlanta is producing more than 'rap,' it's actually a diverse scene here.

What's really sad is Miami's vote count.

Are you implying Miami deserves less votes? Or that it's sad Miami doesn't have more votes?
