There is no other waterfront in the continental United States that can compare with Miami Beach. You're probably only talking about Hawaii at that point.
There are no other tropical ocean beaches, certainly none with the nightlife and vibrancy of Miami Beach.
I will say that I like what's going on with the Wharf in DC. I went there once, but it is only half completed so far. I don't know what else to compare the Wharf to. It's kind of its own thing.
I also thought the Spirit of Washington was a nice dinner cruise on the Potomac River. Good to see the sights in DC.
Considering DC was built out of swamp from the Potomac not sure why Miami can't withstand substantial development.
Only a very small portion of land within the city's original boundaries, representing 2% of DC's land area at the time DC was created, was swampy. Yes, 2%. Not a significant amount of land at all. The rest of DC's original land area, 98%, was above sea level and wasn't a swamp.
