We've discussed in other threads the various ways how central Los Angeles and San Francisco match up-now with the completed Salesforce tower, SF is giving LA serious skyline competition.
The L.A. skyline features the tallest building in the history of the western United States, but thanks to its obtuse design and long spire, doesn't appear so from some viewing angles.
Both cities are building some of the tallest structures in the country in active seismic zones, blowing past sun-belt and midwestern cities that have ideal skyscraper building conditions.
For this comparison, I"m including the city of San Francisco vs Los Angeles from the L.A. river to La Brea Avenue.
San Frans CBD is currently larger then downtown L.A. by a fair amount but I don’t see that staying long as L.A. is in the midst of major development boom in prep for the 2024 Olympics
The Library Tower is taller than Wilshire Grand, FYI. A stick on the roof doesn't change that.
They classified Wilshire Grands antenna as a spire, hence the 1100’ height. That’s why 1 World Trade Center is taller then 432 Park Ave even though it has a shorter roof height
Architectural height is just that, architectural height (spire and all)
The Library Tower is taller than Wilshire Grand, FYI. A stick on the roof doesn't change that.
If this were the case, then the Salesforce Tower would be the tallest in the west. No one else who measures building height seems to care about the spire.
Yeah, in person Wilshire Grand looks short in person. From vantage points it looks shorter than Aon tower.
From the southeast, its nearly indistinguishable from any other building, and looks a good 100 feet shorter than the Aon Center. From MacArthur Park, it clearly looks like the tallest of all.
