This poll is based on an earlier poll I saw comparing L.A to Vegas. The point of this poll isn't to just look at crime statistics. Which city actually feels more dangerous to you? Which has more bad run down areas, that are considered "no go zones" Which city are your more likely to double check your wallet in? Which are you less likely to go out at 1 A.M in? ETC

Not sure about crime data, but having lived in the suburbs of both. I thought D.C's hoods looked worse. Atlanta's hoods just look like run down small towns. D.C's hoods are pretty rough looking. Both cities have gentrified big time. Atlanta mostly on the east side. D.C mostly around Capital Hill and in the North East corridor west of the Anacostia. I think going out late at night simply depends on what neighborhood you're in. Just be aware of your surroundings. I will say that from my experience, I saw more sketch looking people in DT D.C than Atlanta. Though I've heard others say the opposite.

As someone who moved from DC and still travels there 4 times a year, I go with DC. DC has a major homeless problem.

And a lot of those run down small towns have pretty high crime rates...don't be fooled.

Yes but if this thread is about looks in feels. DC looks and feels like an East Coast city in it's hoods. It's just a completely different feel you get from DC on up the coast in the urban centers. The most dangerous areas of many of them are built more dense, and with more people walking around in close proximity, and the buildings are typically a lot older.

Hmm... I've walked through some of the gritty parts of Atlanta. They weren't THAT bad. They felt like poor, small towns with a bunch of corner stores, people not working, etc. I didn't feel like I was going to get robbed walking the streets. DC on the other hand... Yikes...

This is true. However they aren't as bad as S.E D.C.

DC is not what it used to be. It's heavily gentrified and I feel pretty safe in 95% of the District. Atlanta on the the other hand gives me a more uneasy vibe. Then again I'm coming from one of the most dangerous cities in the country. So my perception may be skewed a bit.
