That's actually a common feature of several of the skylines on this list. But I think the architecture of some of Asheville's most notable buildings makes it a bit distinct.
Yeah, as much as I travel, I just don't pay as much attention to the low-rise skylines. I'm sure there are some nice ones in that size range. Asheville's was the first one that came to mind that I really like that I can remember in detail.

Somehow Manchester, Worcester, Springfield, and New Haven are on the poll when Providence and Hartford which are missing have much better skylines than those four.

Yeah, because the criteria I set was this:
*The cities listed in this poll can have only 1 building above 400 feet in height. All other buildings in the city must be less than 400 feet high.
Providence has 2 highrises over 400 feet, and Hartford has several.
Hartford's skyline was booming in the 80s, and they had several 700 footers+ proposed, if I recall correctly. But Hartford has been the "shrinking city" ever since, and those unfortunately were not built.
It looks like a denser Columbia. I like Madison's building synergy. Richmond, VA deserves a mention as well. My top low rises outside DC area are:
Wilmington
Spokane
Grand Rapids
Bellevue
Sarasota
