Anyone have experience living in both cities? I understand there are obvious differences (weather, scenery, COL) but am wondering about the lived urban experience. Public transportation, walkability, access to bars, restaurants, museums, etc.

Feel free to be as objective or subjective as you like. Looking for your own personal opinions.

Chicago. It’s just a bigger city.

How does being bigger make it more urban and cosmopolitan?

SF is every bit as urban and actually feels **more** cosmopolitan than Chicago(which is very cosmopolitan btw) in my experience.

This is like asking which is more pregnant. Either you are or you arent and both are in this case.

Economically, SF feels way more ahead of the times, Chicago can feel a little old school from a business standpoint, especially for those of us who live on the West Coast. In terms of urban amenities, it's a close call, really comes down to which neighborhood you're in for either city.

They are extremelydifferent cities, but I think San Francisco is probably more cosmopolitan than Chicago on the whole. In terms of more urban, Chicago a bit, but....it's pretty even.

Lived in both. SF feels more cosmopolitan and worldly which isnt saying Chicago doesnt but Chicago still has a quintessential American feel to it.

Likewise. And I agree about San Francisco.

I would say tie.

San Francisco definitely feels more international to me but Chicago’s urbanity seems to have a larger reach.

Chicago is more urban definitely. SF may have higher inner core avg densities, but SF's urban core is pretty small. Chicago's is large and the high dense walkable areas extend far out. SF goes pseudo-suburban a few miles outside of the Downtown area.

There were other threads with polls.

Here is one from 2018. Did not last long .... but Chicago got complements and poll win.

Chicago is a Quint-Essential American city and will remind so. Cosmopolitan too. But still much different the SF. Both iconic in their own right.

Personally, I prefer the SF of past decades and Chicago of today. Subjective yes.

I think SF was once a City that defined a generation and era. The world was changed by it.

Love this SF ICONIC 60s timeless SF classic song.

Had its past songs

Frank still had it in the 80s.
