Louisiana - $263,094,000,000 GDP ÷ 4,659,978 estimated population in 2018 = $56,458 per capita GDP

This just shows how strage Florida’s situation really is. Once the population figures are updated, it’s probably going to be somewhere around $49,000 per capita. Yet it’s a state brimming with wealth and wealth oriented services. Wealthy in real life, but poor on paper.

There are many wealthy people in Florida who either retired there or they have a 2nd, 3rd, etc home in Florida. Even if 1000 people spent $30 million per year each only in Florida in a way that would contribute to the GDP, it would only raise the GDP per capita $1400. The key is that many of these people are necessarily moving their businesses there which ultimately has a lot larger impact on GDP number than the fact that rich retirees live there.
