Good Point. I know an African American family in North Andover, which isnt too far from Rockingham who make an absorbant amount of money and moved there from Stoughton for said reasons you stated.

I'm not a fan of comparison threads, that break things down racially. What is it that drives these threads, as there are several now. Typically, I glance at them, but I must be missing the point, as I see no relevance. Trying to figure out how this is helpful, to either race. Oh, wait, I don't think it is.

Also, given that this rail system is available to those in that area: MNR Map (The Port Jervis, Harlem and Hudson lines go into the area) this allows people in that area to work in NYC, if necessary.

Not very interesting. Rockingham County NH is 300,000 and 1% black. It's totally suburban. It's not surprising that the median household income for the ~1,000 black households in affluent New Hampshire suburbia is 6 figures.

The impetus for this one in particular was a friend and I were curious if any major metropolitan area did not having a staggering black/white income gap. Then we got on a tangent about whether we thought it would be a place that was very diverse (as in, beyond just the black/white dichotomy), or if it would be somewhere with a very small black population such as Seattle.

So the first thought was, if we had each metropolitan gap listed out in order, what one would be the smallest? Then, looking at the same list, which one had the smallest income gap but also a sizeable proportion of the population being black?

Originally we thought of just ranking metro areas by black household income, but that felt like it might just tell us "what metropolitan areas are wealthy" instead of "where does a typical black person/household tend to achieve an income/standard of living on par with a typical white person/household?" (Of course, a HH could be multi-racial).

I can't speak for the other posts on the site, but that was the impetus for this thread, literally just curiosity to see what the data said! (As opposed to just anecdotal snap judgments about places)

So im assuming basically the counties at the top are probably less than 5% black.

Tooele, UT population 22,502 white 90.96% black .74%??
Meaningless list to me!

I believe that besides the MD and VA counties on the list, the other counties that are around the national black percentage or higher are Columbia County GA, Brazoria County TX and Nassau County NY.

Is this somehow less important than comparing Chicago vs. San Francisco filthy rich addition? In threads like those, you are pretty active. Do those truly help the filthy rich?

I don't think any of this will have a meaningful impact on our day to do, but I sure as heck think this is a more important discussion to have. Maybe it opens even one eye?
