However, going by CSA, I think the Inland Empire gives L.A. an advantage as it appears to be a more powerful region (that does have room) than inland Bay Area.
Sure if you look at "average density" but not by weighted density.

More powerful than what? Stockton? Modesto? Sure I guess but that's not saying much nor am I really seeing what that matters.

Okay Boomer.

2010-2018 GDP Growth
+$520.2B New York CSA
+$436.7B San Francisco CSA

2010-2018 GDP Growth by Percent
+73.36% San Francisco CSA
+35.12% New York CSA

The fact that people always, and I mean **ALWAYS** drag NYC into a thread about the Bay Area, says everything we need to know.
Some people are obsessed with NYC. I didn't mean to drag NYC into SF. For the record, I understand SF is more economically advantaged than NYC.

.. and for the love of God.. please stop saying NYC is the greatest or whatever because it has the most people in it. This is ridiculously cringey lol

In a LA vs SF debate, we dont need to hear how great NYC is to appease your own ego to whoever said that. Atlanta vs CHarlotte, Boston vsDC, Philadelphia vs Chicago.. NYC is constantly brought up on how amazing a select few think it is. Please keep it on topic unless your making a viable comparison. No need to trump your own ego.

I get that, but it's interesting to find out what they come up with, next. Myopic optimism is something I just can't understand, when a lot is wrong with the Bay Area. I'm always hoping for some realistic posts, dealing with what ails the area, but it never comes. I had to go and see for myself, and what I saw was appalling. To answer the question the OP posed, I think the Bay Area is in for a lot of hurt, sooner than later. It seems, also, that some corporate heads are seeing the issues, and moving conventions elsewhere. The COL can't continue to rise, and the homeless situation needs to be addressed. Nary a word, though...you'd think things are right as rain. That's sooo not the case. SO, I really doubt the Bay Area will surpass LA's GDP, at least for the long-term. I don't think good things await, until issues are dealt with.

Umm LA has the same exact problems FYI since you apparently want to talk about "realistic posts". If you think those issues are going to affect SF's GDP then they will also affect LA's.

LA is more affordable than SF...big difference. People there, don't have to share, basically a large closet, as living quarters.

Not when you factor in how much money people actually make. That's why LA has more rent burdened households compared to the Bay Area: https://www.apartmentlist.com/renton...t-burden-2019/

Also LA is more overcrwoded too: L.A. and Orange counties are an epicenter of overcrowded housing l
