Just FYI, New London is not in the tri state by any stretch. New London culturally (and everything else) is much more in Boston’s orbit than NYCs and borders the Boston CSA
If I google Tri-state area, All of Nj/CT and bay south of the CT Border line. (A couple just highlight all of all 3 states)
Kind of proves Tru Stare Area area and NY metro are not equal

Correct - I actually think they get some local Boston stations too in New London. Totally an underrated and low key beautiful area that's super important to our national defense.
I would say people have been sleeping on Philly as a solid 8.
The next set of cities, Atlanta, DFW, Seattle and Miami are important because of their location. Can you imagine any one of those placed in Philly's location between NY and the Capital of the free world?
With all that heat on Philly it still is a major force. I just don't see anything of what this cities are known for being of much importance if it was placed in Philly's position.
You place SF in Philly's shoes, it's tech still shines
You place Boston, you get Education/ Biotechnology
LA you still have entertainment
Houston, you still have Energy
Chicago, if iffy for me because I doubts it's finance would shine right next to NY.
Atlanta would definitely be downgraded as a black Mecca being located between two black Meccas
Miami’s thunder too would be diminished Bextra NY is also a Latin Mecca
Seattle I guess would be the next highest being a secondary tech Hub.
DFW is the largest outside of the top 5 and yet is the hardest to rank. Like Chicago is not really a Mecca for any one group neither would any of its industries stand our between NY and DC.
Based on that I would say
1. New York
2. DC
3. BAY Area
4. LA
5. Chicago
6. Boston
7. Houston
8. Philly
9. Seattle
10-12 Atlanta, Dallas, Miami
That happens often on here. Philadelphia is a global center for higher education and healthcare, major presence in law, insurance, finance, home to one of the worlds largest media conglomerates, a booming life sciences hub, history, etc.
I agree with your ranking. It will be interesting to see if Philadelphia closes the gap with other life sciences hubs this decade, the momentum is certainly there.
