NYC seeing upstick in homicides and shootings if trend stay the same the city will see 350-400 by year end 2012-2015 records. Chicago murders on par with 2019 the city not seeing upstick
The cities of Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Kansas City also seeing steep uptick.
Philly murders this year seeing numbers high like 2005-2007.
I work for the city police, and my colleague (and one of the only other liberals in my office) is our homicide analyst. I apologize for not having updated Pittsburgh's count on here in quite a while, as our job has become busier. Pittsburgh is tough because so many counts are overinflated because they include "Pittsburgh, PA" zip codes, which, as Pittsburghers know, encompass practically half of Allegheny County's suburban areas.
There's also the issue that many living in the suburbs call themselves "Pittsburghers". I once had to argue with a crime victim that I couldn't help her because she lived in Blawnox, and the crime occurred in Blawnox, yet she kept arguing with me that she was a "Pittsburgher".
Anyhow, as of 04/27/2020 Pittsburgh is at 11 homicides for 2020. That's below-average.
Our rate using the city's 2018 estimated population of 301,048 is 3.6/100,000.
Poor woman... She should learn what city she's moving to before she moves there

What an absolute crying shame.
Cincinnati and Pittsburgh are almost exactly the same size, and up until last year our homicide rates and numbers were very comparable. Pittsburgh is only at 11 for 2020 so far.
I'm not sure why Pittsburgh is starting to trend safer while Cincinnati is starting to trend more dangerous.
I will say Pittsburgh has been rapidly gentrifying (well, pre-COVID 19 anyways), so maybe more of Pittsburgh's homicides are being pushed into the poorer suburbs while Cincinnati's suburbs are largely affluent, so the homicides stay inside the city limits?
This makes me so sad because I'm really rooting for Cincinnati. We enjoy vacationing there.
