That's how I see it as well. Memorial Day weekend is not even the worst: the 4th of July weekend has yet to come. I would have expected a drop in homicides in recent months compared to last year with people staying inside and practicing social distancing but that hasn't happened.

But NoHyping is right, it used to be much worse decades ago. During the Cabrini Green days, in some years, there were up to 970 murders per year. There was complete lawlessness at some point, this is a video about how they apparently forgot to buy fireworks for new years eve in Cabrini Green so they decided to make their own fireworks https://youtu.be/HByqCd7lDp8?t=118.

Thank god. I just think all we can hope for at this point is that Chicago doesn't go above 500 homicides again. Hopefully July 4th isn't a repeat of this past weekend. I definitely think Lori Lightfoot/David Brown will be a better Mayor/TopCop team then Rahm Emanuel/Eddie Johnson. Those two were majorly corrupt and all but gave up policing the city in 2015. Then when they saw the damaging effect their lack of leadership had on the city, they decided to get back to work (barely). Unfortunately it was too late though. The damage had already been done to Chicago's Black community, and it's reputation as a Alpha World city.

https://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2020/...l-day-weekend/

Rough weekend in Baltimore, on pace now to beat last year's record, which would put them close to a 60/100k rate.
