Second murder in the six block autonomous zone in Seattle, CHOP/CHAZ. About 2,000 people live there - and that’s 4 shootings and 2 murders in less than two weeks. The zone does have its own armed guards, but police have generally been kept out of the area. I actually support the idea of CHOP, but they have not proven their ability to keep people safe without police.

Edit: I just learned it was armed CHOP security that actually stopped an attempted drive-by shooting by firing into the vehicle. The person killed was one of the shooters, not sure who the person in critical condition is.

I support the idea of states being autonomous, but not a local area of 6 blocks.

The funny thing is when others cities with high homicide rates are discussed rarely do you see those residents go out their way to talk about other cities. I always see this with Chicago posters though.
I think it is more in relation to the city being viewed as having the highest homicide rate when it doesn’t.

To be completely honest, most American cities with at least 100,000 people have trouble spots in this regard, if not cities with a lower population(50,000 and up).

I remember 2015 and especially 2016 having spikes.
Sure, and that's very possible. Especially since I think a city like NYC SHOULD average around 400-500 murders a year. Getting below 300 was a surprising miracle but i dont think people REALLY thought NYC would stay low forever.

I Hope we don't have a drug epidemic.

Wow - El Paso only 7 murders for a city of 700K - very impressive.
