I mean LA County had 9 million people in the early 90s. NYC was over 2,000 murders easily many years back then.
It was just a violent time. Many smaller cities like DC had far worse homicide rates. It was out of control looking back on it. It seemed half of DC was off limits or incredibly dangerous.
With NYC the majority of homicides were in the city.
LA was another animal where outside city limits was just a continuation of what was happening in LA itself.
LA County with 2,589 homicides is insane. Even Orange County with 300k less people than Chicago had a couple hundred homicides.

Chicago is at 399/400, well on the way to 800 for the year. This is the worst number for July 19th in decades.
I'm still praying for less than 700. Something in me still has hope that this post covid/floyd violence is going to die down. I guess at a certain point later this year I'm going to know whether that number isn't worth hoping for anymore.
Anyway, if Chicago does hit 800 this year or even 700, what does this mean for the immediate future? What will become the new normal in Chicago?, because from 2000 until now and excluding 2016, the average in Chicago has been about 430-490. What can we expect from now on?

They'll probably flood Chicago with cops. But I don't think that'll help.
They're already crying over the slight increase in NYC. Imagine what the nation will say when they see Chicago.
A large fight broke out in a crowd of nearly 200 people early Sunday at Peoria riverfront. A man shot in the neck and a woman shot in the back are in serious condition. The other 11 were inflicted with non life threatening wounds. There have been 4 shooting incidents and 18 hospitalized and one dead in less than 48 hours in Peoria. The city is now at seven homicides.
