Cleveland is ridiculous right now. Five more in the last three or four days and 20 in the last 15, pushing the total to 173.
Whats crazy if you go back on this thread around April I think I posted something how it looked like this may be the first time in 10 years that Cleveland was looking like it could get under 100 for the year. At that point it was around 30 or so four months in... since then it has almost been one per day.
The latest two in the past 30 hours were both on the westside (one an 18 year old who just left a funeral), so its not just the usual eastside pockets. For the year, im guessing the westside has probably accounted for 60 to 70 or so of the 173. ... though even there it has mostly been confined to the usual spots (w.80s in Cudell, Detroit-Shoreway between 65th and 73rd south of Madison and north of Lorain, Stockyards, Clark/Fulton and Bellaire/Puritas). The gentrified parts seem to be doing ok. ... though seeing an uptick in places like Kamm's, Old Brooklyn that usually are quiet.

Toledo is at 55 after a bloody weekend. Their record is 60 set in the year 1980 (when the city had 75k-80k more residents).
First time in 40 years my city has had this high of a murder rate.... Most of us have become suspicious of unfamiliar faces recently... Reminds me of when I was a kid during the summer of 84 when Alton Coleman went on a killing spree throughout the Midwest.... The phrase "Be inside the house when the street lights come on" came to us that summer in Toledo....

That's quite unfortunate. Around the same time you probably made that statement (early spring), Cincinnati was on a very bad streak itself, and was on pace to surpass Cleveland's rate for the first time in my lifetime most likely.
Cincinnati had a moderate/average summer that eventually balanced their numbers out. Too bad that the opposite occurred in Cleveland.
I don't know, murders continued to decline in most cities during the Great Recession.
I still think murders will worsen due to the rollback of tough on crime approach and police cutbacks/less aggressive policing, not to mention the release of thousands of prisoners from prisons and jail to decrease crowding during COVID. Even after COVID, those felons will be on the street until they are caught reoffending.
Damn it seem like every major city went crazy this year !!
