Cities would be better served if there were multiple viable parties, since policies don’t cut neatly into two sides, and there was a process of governing via coalitions. One party dominating can be stasis in continuing the same policies without meaningful adaptation while being “purple” might just end up being so antagonistic that little gets done or things get done and then swiftly undone if things flip out of little more than political spite.
Milwaukee may be in the bluest state of the three, but St. Louis is the bluest city out of the three, by far.
While that may be true, state level politics are more important to the livelihoods of the people. Wisconsin wasn't about to be the only state without a Planned Parenthood or similar entity. Just one example of how a state government is more influential than a local city government. I believe also though that MO was one of the states that banned municipalities from increasing minimum wages and doing similar things at the local level? It's a similar problem in Louisville. It's quite a progressive city, but the state refuses to let it do anything to better itself like banning plastic bag bans and banning minimum wage hikes and banning taxes for bettering public transit and things like that.

I think that is very true. You are damned if you do and damned if you don't regarding politics. An interesting research study could show how blue cities in red states have been hurt by politics and possibly visa versa. It would also be interesting to see how fairly moderate cities have faired as well. Cincinnati leans blue, but the culture is noticeably more conservative than my hometown. Some cities are outwardly conservative but score high on progressive metrics (HRC MEI, Infrastructure, Land Use/Conservation/Green Space, Diversity/Inclusion etc.).

I prefer liberal cities that allow for freedom of expression. I think people are more productive in places like that. But there again I don't want to be attacked by "planned parenthood" type of group either every time I walk down the street.

My vote is for Milwaukee, as it's in the state that does have a "blue " history of sorts ( WI is known as the Progressive State, although now it's close to being a 50/50 state)..

That is interesting to hear Milwaukee's blue history. I like how the Milwaukee county is choosing to help out residents on housing issues due to Covid-19.
Voted for Cinci. Never been to Milwaukee so can't comment there. Been to St. Louis a few times and it was nice. Cinci has proximity to a number of other cities though (Louisville, Columbus, Indianapolis, etc.). I grew up in Ohio so maybe that makes me partial but I think the surrounding area of Cinci is very pretty. Rolling hills and you have the river front (ok, yes the other cities have a river/lake front as well). Plus I can't imagine the crime being worse than either Milwaukee or (especially) St. Louis
