Two metro areas roughly the same size in two vastly different regions of the country. One is in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, while the other is in a semi-arid valley sandwiched between the Sandia Mountains and the West Mesa. One is in the Southeast while the other is in the Southwest. Both of them in some of the most beautiful parts of the country, just in different ways. Which do you prefer?

I can't compare since I've never been to ABQ, but I'd like to visit one day.

Two great metros that I like a lot. But I'll give the edge to Greenville/Spartanburg. Greener and closer to beaches.

New Mexico as a whole is pretty underrated and it’s definitely worth visiting. Easily one of the more unique places in the US.

I won’t compare either because I’ve never been to South Carolina. But I voted ABQ because I’m biased, I like deserts.

Albuquerque is truly one of the ugliest cities I've ever been in. I lived in New Mexico for seven years and was in Albuquerque often. I can certainly recommend Santa Fe and Taos for their charms, however. I love the climate of northern New Mexico - cool, flowery summers (both cities are at 7000-foot elevation), spectacular autumns, when the Aspens turn and the forests are a wonderland, and pretty winters with picturesque, Rocky Mountain snowfalls that are dry and not too troublesome. Both Santa Fe and Taos have VERY expensive real estate markets. I'm sure that's less true of Albuquerque, but the city itself is an eyesore.
