Its cool but doesnt really tell the whole story, especially in the later years when suburban sprawl became a vital part of a major cities growth. Basically it's only accounting for city proper and not the metro. Atlanta for example isn't even on the list at all until the very end where it placed 36th with a population of aprox 500k where as Austin TX made the top 20 of which is heavily inaccurate in terms of metro population growth.

Atlanta has always had a small population for a city of it's caliber...Austin and Ft.Worth has been larger by population for a while now. Even with that being said Atlanta is still always compared to Dallas and Houston though.....cities that are almost 4 times larger by population.

Because Atlanta is much closer to Dallas and Houston when it comes to metro population than it is to Austin

I was responding to the comment about the data only using city proper populations and how Atlanta didn't show up on the list until the end.

LA would be the biggest city in the America if NYC didn’t annex Queens and Brooklyn.

And LA would be much smaller if didn’t annex the San Fernando Valley.

To me it's far more interesting to see how the individual cities grew or lost population through the decades. The suburbs not so much.
