It’s extremely clean-if it weren’t for all the homeless it’d be feckless. Boston is cold and although the city is very diverse the Metro is markedly less diverse than the DMV and Charlotte.

And the homeless isnt in your face and on every corner like some other cities. DC is literally one of the cleanest major cities. If DC isn't for you due to these reasons then major cities in the USA isn't an option for you.

Why would DC seem like a city with a lot of graffiti and blight? It's not an industrial/post-industrial city with a declining population which is the type of city where you're more likely to see such.

Boston isn't running away with this because you said you want a city where it doesn't snow a whole lot.

All things considered, DC fits your criteria best but you seem hesitant.

I agree with dc...I would say definitely consider Boston if cold weather isn’t as big of a deal...Boston winters can be cold..dc too really compared to places like Charleston or Nashville...keep in mind though many of these cities may not be back to themselves for sometime

For what it's worth, it didn't even snow in DC this past winter which is a bit unusual.

Well, based on criteria, Boston gets cold/gets plenty of snow and housing costs have grown so incredibly high post recession that I'm not sure it's the best investment (could say the same thing about DC). Maybe in raw equity increase it could be? But not by %.

So, for me, I'd choose DC if I wanted all of the criteria including a tolerable winter with limited snow.

Of the big 6, in terms of urban core (NYC, SF, Chi, Bos, Philly, DC). I'd argue DC has the least blight and is the cleanest overall. Chicago and Boston are clean, but I'd even say DC is cleaner/ less blight than those. It's the nation's capital, they take pretty good care of it.

agree.

DC has an equal amount of blight to Boston..maybe DC has slightly less..SF doesn't really have blight its just dirty. None of this matters, just my 2 cents.

D.C. has some of the highest crime rates of the country's largest cities. Maybe I just associate more crime with more potential blight. Not sure.

One day we'll have a thread about how wealth crime and home prices are only indirectly related in 2020 an the age of gentrification.

We need to talk about crime cultures.

Cities like Oakland and DC are uber wealthy and expensive but and have very high crime rates. A lot of it has to do with gang cultures, underground economies, housing policies, suburban zoning, and drug shipment routes/methods. Most of which is stuff posters here really don't know about
