Good to see Las Vegas so low. In stark comparison to its reputation as a high crime city.

The NYPD is notorious for dumbing down crimes. As crime went down the misdemeanor rate somehow got ALOT higher than the 80s and 90s.

I have zero faith that in 2020 the largest and most public Police Force in this country is ‘dumbing down’ crime rates. If they are it’s in step with any other city. If anything higher crime stats or at least cyclical crime increases might give you better leverage in contract negotiations. No way crime has been steadily dropping for 39 years of cooked books.

Of course the decline isn't completely fabricated. But even last year they were called our for intentionally misclassifying rape. And even a NYPD Captain called them out on it.

Why isn't Flint on this list, or Gary?

I'm a little shocked to see DC ranked so high (far ahead of Philly and Miami for example), especially given the demographic shift the past 15-20 years. Anacostia/Southeast will probably always be the area it is, but it seems such a small slice compared to the rest of the city.

So, by listing city proper, rather than MSA, some cities with big crime problems are left off...for instance, St. Louis. Usually, the MSA would be a better guide.

The cities listed on this list, are from FBI statistics. Quite a bit different than the city proper list. Crime doesn't stop on the other side of the street, where the MSA begins.
