This should give an idea of potential places to look in both areas: https://www.city-data.com/forum/59092004-post567.html

Why wouldn't it? Nashville is one of the premier cities in the country now for people of all races.

Eh...not quite. This is a very informative article by WaPo. Check this out in particular.

Looks like Memphis is being sold short somewhat whereas Nashville has something of a PR issue with potential Black transplants. I know it's working on that and the new Black music museum is a great step towards that end, but currently it is not among the cities drawing the most Black transplants. Nashville isn't even mentioned in this article, which is a bit jarring for a Southern boomtown with the Black history and cultural legacy it has.

This article seems to reflect the attitude of at least some Black Nashvillians.

Memphis is the most predominantly black large metro area in the country (metro is 48-9% black). How could Nashville win this so easily.

Memphis has much more crime and poverty than Nashville and a pretty weak job market.

Nashville isn't that far behind Memphis when it comes to crime and it is much more expensive than Memphis. The most urban part of either city is downtown and Memphis has its advantages there.

You think downtown Memphis has an advantage over Broadway/the Gulch area?

In terms of affordability, absolutely. And personally, I wouldn't want to live in an overly touristy urban area.
