Yeah, that's probably true, although I bet a lot of those third party voters were Libertarians, which tend to be conservative as well. But I agree that with all the coastal city transplants it's probably trending in the other direction. Still far from being a progressive place, though.

I don't know anything about Spokane but I used to live in Shreveport and it was plagued then as it is now with high crime and stagnant growth.

Shreveport itself voted for Hillary. The outlying areas are red. In the last 30 years, only W won in Shreveport in 2004.

As far as the arts go, Shreveport ranks pretty high in its category of cities. You folks looking at all the statistics ("facts and figures please") can tell me all day that Shreveport is such a toilet bowl. But I suspect most of you have never been here or spent much time there. It's really not all that bad.

You can have all your Seattles, Denvers, San Franciscos, LAs and New Yorks all day long. I live better in this city than I ever could in those places and like cities. When you have to have a roommate to make ends meet and your making a six figure salary, it's all yours. Enjoy.

I have a cousin who lives in Spokane and he says its nice for the kind of life he leads. Too cold and dark for me, though.

Shreveport is a cool place to visit but I don't know that I would live there. I don't know much about Spokane, but I'm guessing that Shreveport has a better nightlife while Spokane has more to do in general (better outdoor recreation). Spokane is about 4 hours from Seattle while Shreveport is 5 hours from New Orleans and 3~ hours from Dallas. Spokane is closer to more impressive scenery, though I do happen to like the hilly terrain between Shreveport and Dallas. I can't really make a call on downtowns, but Shreveport has a fun one. I love the Louisiana Boardwalk. Spokane is drier, cooler, and snowier than warm, humid Shreveport. I feel like Shreveport would have a more distinctive culture but preference is subjective.

Very kind of you to say about Shreveport. While I don't like everything about this city and that there are many many things that need changing, I'll stick with it. With the way times have been going as a nation, I don't feel a great desire to move at this time. Someday I will visit Spokane and I will be looking forward to it. But being familiar with a place is comforting to me. I don't know anybody up there other than my cousin and his family. They all like it up there and I'm glad. They ski in the winter and ride motorcycles in the summer so its a place they really enjoy. I couldn't see them living down here. But for the most part this is all I've ever known. I have visited most cities incl NY, LA, SF, Denver, Atlanta, etc. Nice places to visit but I wouldn't want to live in any of those. Alabama has its charms as does Mississippi.

What makes Shreveport perform so well in the arts?

I'm not familiar with Shreveport persay but my cousin lived there for years, I've stayed at her home which backed up to Columbia Park. People in Louisiana and places like it tend to accept the conditions as completely normal. I completely get not wanting to live other places but Shreveport isn't "fine" to live in for many of the poor/middle class growing up there.

I'd choose Shreveport. I imagine Spokane has some pretty rough winters. I prefer snow to be an event that happens every few years that shuts down the city as if it's a holiday rather than a winter time where it's business as usual after a heavy snow fall.
